South-west Trains regrets
Jan. 27th, 2012 11:48 amI was going to a concert last night and when I got to Guildford station I found all of the fast trains from Guildford to London were cancelled. Fast trains to London start in Portsmouth and there appeared to be not one but two incidents on the line from Portsmouth. According to the announcements, someone had been hit by a train at, I think it was, Southsea, and I'm sure they said a police armed response unit had been called out to an incident at Havant. Well, that's a change from leaves on the line or the wrong type of snow.
The slow trains that start at Guildford were running. They take about an hour instead of the 35 minutes for the fast trains. There was one due to leave at 18:08 which would have given me ample time to get from Waterloo to the Royal Festival Hall, but whilst I was sitting on it waiting to depart, they announced an extra semi-fast service starting from Guildford. Everyone made a dash across to he new platform.
When I was coming back there didn't seem to be a fast train on the board so I took the slow. When I finally got to Guildford, they were now announcing problems with a defective train as well, but no mention of the police. I googled Havant on the news feeds today but no mention of what was going on yesterday.
