According to New Scientist, there is a urologist at the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam called Dik Kok.

That was the headline on the News Scientist news feed.  And the article is just what it says:

I do like Mark Steel's column in The Independent and today he is reacting to news that "the average 'remuneration' for directors of top companies has gone up 10 per cent to £3.7m".

"Did they tell their shareholders, 'It's such a struggle. I get home on a Friday, buy a couple of pandas and a snooker table, pay for Placido Domingo to sing while I'm in the bath, and half my week's money's gone already.' You almost have to admire the front. As if the Spanish said, 'Here, you know that bailout. We spent it on a Damien Hirst giraffe stuffed with diamonds. Can we have another one?'"

That's the headline I've just seen on BBC News digitext.

The actual news story is more boring:

So I was looking at the live feeds from The Independent and I noticed one called "This is a test section".  It included a view online option, and clicking on that produced a page called This is a test section.

I was very amused at the lines from the page.  Especially "Man sentenced to eternity of painful futility following minor moral transgression" as a headline summation of Paradise Lost.

Wrote this on Wednesday, but it went into limbo with the recent problems.  Couldn't connect to LiveJournal all yesterday.  They seem to have expanded the test page considerably since then.

And I now see that that entry did turn up.
