Ah me lads, ye shud only seen us gannin'
Jun. 10th, 2012 08:30 pmI see from the paper that yesterday was the 150th anniversary of the journey to see the Blaydon races, immortalised in song. I lived long enough in the north-east of England for the song to impress itself on my memory.
I even remember the celebrations for the centenary of the song fifty years ago. One item I recall was a TV programme on Tyne-Tees television called Happy-go-Lucky which had time-travelling dream sequence when one of the cast found themself back in 1862. (Can't find a reference to the show on the IMDb but I do recall that Jack Haig was in it, and he went on to play Leclerc in 'Allo, 'Allo.)
(Hmm, the attempt to embed a Youtube video doesn't look right, but if you are really interested, you can cut and paste the URL.)
