Chicon day 4
Sep. 3rd, 2012 12:04 pmSo, I expect the main news from day 4 is well known by now. The final session of the business meeting started with the announcement of the site selection result. Probably not so well known is that I'm now the Loncon 3 representative on the Mark Protection Committee. Which probably means nothing to most people.
I spent an hour sitting the membership table yesterday afternoon, which was not as busy as I thought it might be. Possibly a large number of people took the option of voting and becoming a friend of the bid, which was the cheapest way to get a full attending membership. Although a number of people, having taken out a friend membership on Saturday were coming over to the site selection table, finding out they had to pay to vote, and decided not to.
I still bought more books.
The Hugos were well attended last night. By about seven o'clock, the queue ran up a down escalator and across to the other tower of the hotel (at basement level, so it wasn't crossing a street).
Unlike the normal procedure in past years, toastmaster John Scalzi was the sole presenter of the awards, apart from the the category in which he had been nominated.
I presume those interested have already seen the results.
The Loncon 3 party last night seemed to go well, with champagne.
