Alice of Abergavenny

Just been watching The Normans on the BBC.  This week's episode included the story of Alice of Abergavenny, an Anglo-Norman from the Welsh borders, who, after her lover was killed in a battle in Ireland, dispatched 70 Irish prisoners with an axe.  Never got taught stories like that in school history.  (Actually, school history rarely touched on Irish history.  Too touchy a subject, I suspect, even before the Troubles.)
