So I finally got round to watching Sunday's episode and I watched the credits through to the end and one name at the very end of the cast list caught my attention: Diogenes Gent - Douglas Wilmer.
Oh, that's a nice touch. Wilmer played Holmes on the BBC back in the sixties (and again in the film The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother). According to the IMDb, he's now in his nineties and it's his first entry since 1986. I went back and re-watched the recording and he is recognisable - he's the old man with the stick.
I read now that the sixties series was not very good but it was my first introduction to Holmes and my eleven-year-old self found it fascinating. But the episode involving the Devil's Foot gave me and my sisters nightmares and my parents stopped us watching it the following week but relented and let me watch it after that.
