This looks like it might be fun.
Syfy have been trailing this for some weeks, so I gave the opening episode a try tonight. It's a New Zealand series about a family - called the Johnsons - and on his twenty-first birthday Axl, the youngest, finds they are all re-incarnations of Norse gods. What's more, when he goes through his transformation he discovers he is Odin.
It's funny, but it's played straight. Brother Anders is a poetry god, which gives him the power persuasion - he seems to run an ad agency. Olaf, who Axl thought was his cousin, turns out to be his grandfather. He's Baldr and ages very slowly. He's something of a stoner and also an Oracle. There's a prophecy that Odin needs to find the re-incarnation of Frig for the gods to fully regain their powers, and a group of women who are trying to kill Axl.
Only one famous name in the cast. Keisha Castle-Hughes plays Axl's flatmate, Gaia. I recognised the name as she was in a film called Whale Rider about ten years ago when she became the youngest actress to be nominated for the Best Actress Oscar.
Definitely will watch again next week.
