... and twenty-five years later

Went down to put the kettle on for breakfast this morning and there seemed to be something odd about the light in the kitchen. The sun was shining but it seemed darker than normal. Then I noticed there was part of a tree blocking the window.
Got dressed and went out to have a look. At first I thought it was a bough had broken off a big tree but on examination it seemed to be a separate tree, a large sapling about 3m tall. It appeared to be partially uprooted. (There's a variety of plant around here, I hesitate to call it a weed, which seems to shoot up and before you know it, has grown to 3m. And as this had grown up along side an existing tree, I might not have noticed it all if it hadn't blown over.)
I got the pruning saw and cut it off about a metre above the ground. When I get the time I'll cut the rest of it up to go into the garden waste recycling bags.
I vaguely recall the forecast saying something about if being windy yesterday, but I didn't hear the sounds of wind whistling round the rooftops last night. When I went out just now, I did notice a number of twigs and leaves on the ground, but nothing large. And all the trees seem to be nearly fully in leaf still. If we do get a major storm in the next week or so, I can see many trees falling over.
